1月21日，现货黄金出现震荡下行，虽然特朗普在达沃斯论坛上抨击美联储，但目前贸易局势良好，以及英国硬脱欧情绪缓和的作用下，明显打压了黄金市场的避险需求，同时投资者也开始调整黄金多头头寸，对金价带来下行压力。
有报道称，法国和美国就数字税分歧达成休战，至少暂时避免了围绕这一问题的贸易战。美国和法国官员透露，法国总统马克龙周日致电美国总统特朗普，寻求化解关税威胁的途径，同时二人也在着手就数字税问题磋商一份更广泛的协议。
马克龙周一晚间发表推文称，他与特朗普进行了“非常棒的讨论”，“我们将共同努力，达成一项良好的协议，以避免关税升级。”
据报道，上议院以270票对229票通过由亲欧盟的自由民主党提出的第一项修正案，即在英国脱欧之后，符合条件的欧盟公民将自动取得续留英国的权利，不用再向政府申请。
IMF温和下调对美国和欧元区2020年经济增速的预测，对印度的预测则下调逾一个百分点。全球贸易量增速预测从3.2%下调至2.9%，仍远优于去年1%的增长。
尽管风险有所缓解，但IMF明确表示要担心的因素还有很多。贸易不确定性仍存，美国和伊朗酝酿中的紧张关系可能打击石油供应，另外还有天灾及社会动荡因素。
分析人士指出，欧洲国家启动伊核协议争端解决机制向伊朗施压，伊朗发出上述警告有担心失去合法性、希望维持伊核协议、提高反击效果等多重考虑。尽管伊朗态度强硬，但仍为局势转圜留下了一定余地。
当地时间21日起，美国国会参议院将正式审理美国总统特朗普弹劾案，这也让驴象两党争论进入白热化阶段。除了在特朗普“是否有罪”的问题上两党意见截然相反之外，在是否传唤白宫前国家安全顾问博尔顿等关键人物作证的问题上两党也存在分歧。
