全球金融市场和企业界普遍认为，中美就第一阶段经贸协议文本达成一致对外释放积极信号，市场的不确定性风险在收敛，全球市场前景向好。
据英国泰晤士报和金融时报等英国媒体周二报导，英国首相约翰逊将大胆行动，通过立法来避免英国脱欧过渡期延续到2020年之后。英镑兑美元遂完全回吐上周五录得的全部涨幅。
这将使得任何延期都违反法律，形成一个潜在的断崖，除非约翰逊能够与欧盟在短短11个月内达成贸易协议。现在投资者关心的是，约翰逊是否会遵守竞选承诺，在2020年底期限之前与欧盟如期达成新的贸易协议。
在将不把脱欧过渡期延长至2020年底之后的竞选承诺纳入法律后，约翰逊与欧盟达成贸易协议的时限也从将近三年缩短到11个月。约翰逊发言人稍早曾表示，实施脱欧所需的修订版脱欧协议议案(WAB)将在本周五(12月20日)提交议会。
他们表示：“但是，此次以如此大的优势赢得大胜后，约翰逊无需依靠其党内的任何一派，尤其是那些可能试图在过渡期结束时驱使他走向硬脱欧的强硬脱欧者，某种形式的延长期限现在显得也更有可能，即使会做出一些努力给人以这种印象：这不是保守党在宣言中承诺不会延长的过渡期。”
虽然约翰逊领导的保守党在议会的巨大优势，让他有灵活空间在需要时修改法律，但他向欧盟发出的信息仍堪称大胆。这增加了英国在与欧盟进行商品和服务贸易时将面临关税和其他壁垒的可能性，英镑料迎来深幅回调，并增加贵金属的避险需求。
