北京時間22點公佈的美國4月工廠訂單月率下降0.80%，時隔一個月後再度萎縮，不過好於預期的下降1.0%。美國4月耐用品訂單月率終值維持-2.1%不變。
分析師們指出，製造業近期有所萎縮在一定程度上可能源於第一季度庫存大幅增加。這意味著，工廠無需生產太多產品就能滿足需求。
但今年年初以來的持續疲軟狀況表明，美國製造業已經受到了貿易摩擦、全球經濟走軟和美元走強的擠壓。美元走強會使美國出口產品在全球市場上變得更加昂貴。
分析師稱，美國製造業的數據無法粉飾太平。即便是美國經濟沒有增長，美國國內需求還不錯。但不可否認的是，美國出口需求正趨於疲軟。
隨著企業清理庫存，製造業正在走弱，導致向工廠下的訂單減少。美國和中國之間的貿易對峙不斷升溫，引發了華爾街的拋售，以及全球經濟增長不溫不火，也拖累了交易活動；
重新出現的貿易緊張局勢預計將對出口構成壓力，第二季度美國GDP年增長率估計低於2%。第一季度經濟增長率為3.2%。
分析師表示，4月耐用品數據顯示企業投資疲弱，這是美國經濟數據疲軟的一個例證。
