12月25日，美元指数出现小幅上涨，在一定程度上扭转了过半的跌幅。因为在圣诞节来临的时候，美国政府陷入关门危机，白宫和美联储对抗，投资者削减了对高风险资产的需求。同时现货黄金上涨到六个月以来的高点，因为美股下跌，油价下跌，提振金价。
在股市下挫之际，美国财长努钦主持了与总统的金融市场工作组的电话会议，讨论金融市场问题。该工作组俗称“跌势救护队”，包括美联储和美国证券交易委员会(SEC)的官员。
由于政府部分关停，特朗普取消了上周五到佛州过圣诞节的计划。稍早时，特朗普在推特贴文称：“孤单的(我好可怜)在白宫等待民主党回头找我，就迫切需要的边境安全达成协议。”
美国总统特朗普周一还批评即将离任的国防部长马蒂斯及其联盟观，称其没能认识到美国在全球全地提供军事支持所付出的真正代价。
美联储已完成升息进程，这是利率期货市场传递的信息。周一风险资产资金全面出逃，促使交易员预计美联储未来几乎不会进一步升息。
美国股市周一大跌，因担心经济增长减缓、政府关门，且有报导称对美联储加息愈发愤怒的总统特朗普曾讨论解雇美联储主席鲍威尔的可能性。
2020年1月联邦基金利率期货合约价格周一大涨10.5个基点，该合约隐含收益率为2.41%，正好位于当前美联储利率目标区间2.25-2.50%之内。市场密切关注该合约，以判断明年年底时美联储的指标利率水平。
利率期货市场上周首次开始预期，美联储可能从2020年开始扭转升息机制。但是当时市场仍预计美联储2019年有可能再升息一次。
现在这种可能性已经消失不见。CME的“联储观察”工具最新数据显示，市场对美联储2019年至少加息一次的预期不到25%。
由于担忧中美贸易争端、美国升息和特朗普减税对美国经济的提振作用减退，全球股市在10月初以来大幅下跌。
