希腊总理齐普拉斯上周五(2月27日)否认该国需要第三轮国际救助；此外一项调查结果也显示，希腊新政府的支持率大增，即便其不得不作出让步，以获得欧元区提供的临时资金救助。
齐普拉斯驳斥了德国方面所称希腊正试图敲诈欧元区的指责。不过他表示，希腊政府已要求减记该国债务，尽管欧洲与国际货币基金组织(IMF)债权人坚持认为希腊当局必须充分履行义务。
希腊已经获得两轮共计2400亿欧元的救助，齐普拉斯所在的左翼激进联盟党(Syriza)一个月前以承诺摆脱欧盟/IMF救助计划为纲领赢得了大选。欧盟/IMF救助计划迫使本就处境艰难的国家实施紧缩政策和改革。
但如果没有救助协议，希腊银行系统就将失去从欧洲获得紧急融资的渠道。因此希腊政府上周不得不将原定于周六到期的救助计划延长四个月。
齐普拉斯在对内阁发表电视讲话时称，“忘了第三轮救助吧。希腊人民已经用选票终止了救助计划。”
面对政府作出的让步，希腊人民并未显得失望或愤怒。Metron Analysis一项调查结果显示，左翼激进联盟党的支持率攀升至47.6%，远高于1月25日获得支持票比例36.3%。
报纸Parapolitika所作的调查显示，超过三分之二的希腊民众对政府与欧盟伙伴的协商方式感到满意。76%的民众对政府目前为止的表现给予正面评价。
齐普拉斯将新协议称作“过渡协议”，而非延长希腊民众所普遍厌恶的救助协议。他还不点名地批评德国财长朔伊布勒，后者誓言不会任由希腊“敲诈”欧元区伙伴。
