印度结婚旺季即将在1月中旬拉开帷幕，而印度家庭却越发依靠以家中持有的黄金来满足婚礼饰品需求，这种趋势可能导致该国1月黄金进口减少73%至40吨，远远低于去年11月的151吨。
印度黄金饰品协会(India Bullion & Jewellery Association)发言人Ketan Shroff表示：“有近30-40%的婚礼饰品需求被家中黄金所满足。虽然消费者在购买新饰品，但速度有所减缓。”该机构认为，有将近2.2万吨黄金被锁在印度家庭中。
Shroff称，由于预期印度政府将实施一些更严格的进口限制措施，指定机构在去年11月间进口了大量黄金。但实际情况却与此相反，政府撤销了80:20黄金进口规则，使得在印度市场上得到黄金变得容易。印度11月黄金进口额激增至56.1亿美元，并将贸易逆差推升至18个月高位。
尽管黄金在市场上的可获得性有所提高，但零售终端的价格仍因卢比兑美元走软而上涨。Shroff表示：“黄金经销商或在打折出售黄金，但消费者可能并没有享受到好处。”
Shroff补充道：“另外，股票市场也有良好回报，所以并没有多少投资资金流入黄金。”
