据路透社报道，美国4月职位空缺大幅攀升至纪录高位，5月小企业信心增强，均显示经济成长在年初萎缩后重拾动能。美国劳工部周二公布，4月职位空缺增至540万，为2000年12月开始公布该数据以来最高。3月为510万。
就业岗位和汽车销售急增，加之5月制造业活动扩张，这些都表明经济成长正在逐步加速。
另外，全美独立企业联盟报告称，小企业信心指数5月攀升1.4个点，至98.3，为12月以来最高。
周二公布的其他数据也擦亮了第二季成长前景。4月批发库存稳健增长，油价企稳扶助提振批发销售录得逾一年来最大月度增幅。美国商务部周二公布，4月批发库存增长0.4%，3月为增长0.2%。接受路透调查的经济学家预计，4月批发库存增长0.2%。
批发库存是影响国内生产总值(GDP)的一项关键成份。用于计算GDP的批发库存成份–扣除汽车的批发库存–增长0.2%，表明库存将给第二季经济成长带来温和的提振。
4月批发销售急增1.6%，为去年3月以来最大月度增幅。自去年8月以来批发销售一直十分疲弱，部分是因油价下跌给石油商品销售额造成负面影响。这导致库存累积，使批发商没有进一步购买商品的胃纳。
以4月的销售速度来计算，将需要1.29个月来消化现有的库存，低于3月时的1.3个月。
库存/销售比高企通常意味着库存积压，这将迫使企业清理存货，进而拖累制造业表现和经济成长。
不过，部分分析师谨慎地认为不应过度解读库存/销售比高企的现象，因油价严重压制了原油商品的销售价值。
另外，他们预计未来几个季度库存将减少，这是导致第二季成长预估不够乐观的原因之一。库存给首季GDP带来了三分之一个百分点的贡献。且4月石油销售跳增4.9%。
