南非矿业协会周二(6月9日)声明称，安格鲁阿山帝、伊万金矿、哈莫尼、Sibanye Gold、Village Main Reef、南非矿工协会和建设联盟、南非全国矿工工会、Solidarity、以及南非工会联合协会(UASA)于周二举行了会谈，黄金生产商与工会将于6月22日启动薪资谈判、会期将持续三日，黄金生产商认为谈判需要采取不同的手段。
世界金属统计局(WBMS)提供的数据显示，最近数年来，南非在黄金市场上的重要性已经人老珠黄；在2014年，南非黄金产出为145吨，在全球金矿产出中占比仅有4.9%，从而沦落为全球第六大黄金生产国。
但是，德国商业银行(Commerzbank)将会像2014年那样密切追踪谈判进程的推进。非矿工协会和建设联盟(AMCU)已经威胁称，一旦南非业界在该组织缺席的情况下举行磋商并敲定一份新协议，该组织将举行罢工。即便其重要性近年下降，但一旦罢工进入“持久战”，恐怕就会影响到黄金供应和黄金价格。
