美国纽约联储主席杜德利周五(6月5日)表示，美国就业市场可能已停下了改善步伐，因为强劲的就业增长掩盖了生产率增长疲弱及兼职和长期失业水准高的情况。
上周五美国公布5月新增就业岗位28万个，但杜德利表示，他担心美国经济的增长速度还没有快到足以吸收2007年-2009年金融危机和衰退导致的失业或暂退居观望的闲置劳力。尤其是，如果生产率反弹，经济增长放缓，这意味着企业雇主需要的雇员会更少，这将放缓就业进展，并令美联储升息计划变得复杂起来。
杜德利表示，他仍预计美联储有可能在今年稍后升息，但只有在经济增长从上半年的疲弱态势中复苏，且反映就业市场疲势的指标出现更多改善后才会升息。
杜德利在对明尼苏达经济俱乐部的讲话中表示，近期就业增长之所以稳健，失业率之所以进一步下滑，仅仅是因为生产率增长明显放缓。经济增长能否强劲到足以促使就业市场进一步改善，依然存在不确定性。
杜德利上周五的讲话与近期其他美联储官员的讲话遥相呼应，他们均担心，继美国经济今年开局表现疲软后，第二季经济也没有出现预期中的反弹。杜德利确实表示，他预计经济增长将在今年下半年提速，使得美联储有可能在今年年内加息。
杜德利认为央行在决定以多快速度升息时会态度谨慎，杜德利还表示，个人角度来说，希望美联储维持4万亿美元的资产规模，直到经济和金融状况明确恢复正常。随着债券和其他资产到期，美联储应当将资金继续进行再投资，直到利率远离近零水平。
