汇丰中国制造业PMI终值报48.9，低于3月份的49.6，同时也不及49.2的初值；初值是基于全部已答调查问卷的85%-90%汇编得出的虽说较小范围的调查所得结果发生微小变动不应引起过多注意，但是终值低于初值且创下2014年4月以来最低水平，使得人们心目中中国制造业加速下滑的感觉有了进一步的增强。
官方和汇丰PMI均呈现疲软态势。与中国出口数据亦步亦趋的韩国出口初步数据也出现萎缩。在4月30日的政治局会议上，中国政府谈到了经济面临的主要下行风险。
彭博经济学家认为，经济前景虽然黯淡，但中国制造业依然保持乐观。
中国仍有加大货币政策宽松力度的空间。尽管中国央行最近采取了一系列行动，但是其政策立场依然偏紧。实际利率居高不下，贷款增速处于低位也在继续拖累国内需求；与此同时，人民币实际有效汇率上升阻碍了出口。
为了支持经济增长，中国央行或许不得不加快货币宽松的步伐。4月份，中国央行把银行存款准备金率下调1个百分点，下调幅度是以往的两倍，出乎市场意料。
如近日中国媒体所言，眼下的可能性之一是中国央行再“来次大的”，一下降息50个基点。央行通常的降息幅度是25个基点。
