美国防部发言人沃伦20日证实了“西奥多·罗斯福”号航母的最新动态。不过，他否认该航母的这一调动针对伊朗。他说，“可以肯定的是，此次行动不是为了拦截任何舰船，而是由于也门当前持续升级的国内危机。”
但《今日美国报》报道称，“西奥多·罗斯福”号航母正在追踪一个开赴亚丁湾的伊朗舰队。
美联社的消息称，鉴于也门局势持续紧张，美海军将加强亚丁湾和阿拉伯海的军事存在。目前，已有包括巡洋舰和驱逐舰在内的9艘美国军舰部署在这一海域。
也门局势近期因胡塞武装攻占首都萨那而持续紧张。自3月底以来，沙特等十余国联合对也门境内多地进行空中打击。据也门官方通讯社报道，仅20日一天，就有至少25人在空袭中丧生，近400人受伤。
美国白宫发言人欧内斯特20日表示，美国认为，必须通过外交途径解决也门当前危机，而伊朗为胡塞武装提供军援的做法只会使局势进一步恶化，美国对此感到担忧。
