2002年6月28日，继美国安然公司和世界通讯公司曝出假账丑闻之后，美国著名的办公用品制造商施乐公司也被揭露在5年期间做假账30亿美元，以掩盖其巨额亏空。施乐公司假账丑闻传出之后，纽约证券交易所施乐公司的股价立即狂跌20%。
2002年4月，美国证券交易委员会宣布，施乐公司在1997年到2000年4年间总共虚报了15亿美元的利润。此外，该委员会估计施乐公司在同一时期内还虚报了大约30亿美元的营业收入。为此，双方达成协议，证券交易委员会对施乐公司在财务报告上作假的行为处以1000万美元的罚款，同时要求施乐公司再次进行审计，彻底查清其账目。此后，施乐公司解雇了负责审计公司账目的毕马威国际会计咨询公司，转而聘用普华永道会计师事务所。《华尔街日报》报道说，据参与普华永道对施乐公司审计工作的人士称，从1997年到2001年的5年间，施乐虚报的营业收入可能超过了60亿美元，大大超出美国证券交易委员会的预计。消息一经公布，在当天纽约股市开市前，施乐的股价在电子交易系统中就已经猛跌了31%。而该公司发行的2009年到期的欧元债券也贬值至原价的70%。
