目前白银的货币需求逐渐让位于工业需求，其中以电子电器材料、感光材料为主，传统的工艺饰品也占据一定市场份额，另外医学以及抗菌材料方面也有不少应用。
第一，银的导热性和导电性在金属中名列前茅，在各类电子材料中白银的使用量位居金属用量榜首，大致可分为电接触材料、复合材料、能源工业材料和焊接材料。
灵敏度极大的物理仪器元件、各种继电器中重要的接触点的接头、无线电系统中重要的元件在焊接时的焊料、各种自动化装置、火箭、潜水艇、计算机、核装置以及通讯系统中的接触点等均存在白银的身影。
目前，全球银和银基电接触材料年产量为2900吨-3000吨。
第二，一直以来，卤化银感光材料是用银量最大的领域之一。
目前生产和销售量最大的几种感光材料为摄影胶卷、相纸、X光胶片、荧光信息记录片、电子显微镜照相软片和印刷胶片等。
上世纪90年代，世界照相业用银量大约在6000吨-6500吨，但由于电子数码成像技术的创新以及照相器材产业的发展，卤化银感光材料用量有所减少。
尽管如此，卤化银感代表处。围绕国家资源战略，中铝公司积极寻找海外开发机会，在20多个国家跟踪并推进资源开发项目。
