特朗普政府要求美國國稅局撤銷哈佛大學免稅地位
據知情人士透露，特朗普政府已要求美國國稅局啟動撤銷哈佛大學免稅地位的程式。財政部官員要求國稅局代理首席法律顧問安德魯·德梅洛推進一項計畫，取消哈佛大學的關鍵地位，即捐贈者可以獲得捐款的稅收減免，並使哈佛大學不必為任何淨收入納稅。哈佛大學作為501(c)(3)教育機構，免征聯邦所得稅。撤銷免稅地位通常要經過美國國稅局的詳細審計，而且這個過程可能會陷入法律挑戰。最近，哈佛拒絕了行政部門提出的各種要求，包括要求該校與聯邦政府分享所有招生數據。特朗普和國會中的共和黨人一直在與哈佛大學鬥爭，指責哈佛在打擊反猶主義方面做得不夠，同時還向它施壓，要求它終止多樣性、公平和包容（DEI）專案。政府最近還宣佈凍結了超過22.6億美元的聯邦基金，用於多年研究補助金和合同。

當地時間4月16日，美國鋁業公司表示，該公司的部分材料來自中國供應商，由於沒有合適的替代供應商，美國對中國徵收的高額關稅將使該公司的年度成本增加1000萬至1500萬美元。談及美國目前的產能，美國鋁業公司首席執行官奧普林格表示，即使所有閒置的冶煉產能都重新啟動，美國仍將面臨360萬噸的缺口。在美國增加冶煉能力之前，最有效的鋁供應鏈是從加拿大獲取鋁。根據報導，美國鋁業公司表示，美國對從加拿大進口的鋁徵收關稅預計將使該公司第二季度損失約9000萬美元。奧普林格在該公司的財報電話會議上表示，該公司在加拿大生產的鋁約有70%銷往美國客戶，現在需繳納25%的關稅，這已導致該公司在第一季度損失約2000萬美元。
