紐約州州長庫莫表示，紐約的醫院必須在收到疫苗一周內完成接種，否則將面臨罰款以及未來減少供應。幾小時後，他宣佈該州發現首例傳染性更強的新冠變種病毒。
儘管新冠病毒變異且一些國家實施新的出行限制措施，給經濟復蘇前景蒙上了一層陰影，但投資者總體上繼續看好各國在年內推出新的刺激政策，並有效抬升通脹預期，及其給金價帶來的利好。
美國當選總統拜登週一敦促喬治亞州選民在週二的參議員決選中將選票投給兩名民主黨候選人，此次選舉將決定美國參議院的控制權歸屬。總統特朗普則準備說服選民讓共和黨繼續掌控參議院。
若民主黨掌控國會參眾兩院，可能使抗疫財政刺激舉措加碼，還可能為當選總統拜登推行更激進的政策計畫鋪路，其中包括加強企業監管和加稅。這種前景令華爾街部分投資者感到擔心。
美國克利夫蘭聯儲主席梅斯特週一表示，如果多數國民接種了新冠疫苗，美國經濟增長可能在今年稍後大幅加快，但仍不太可能促使美聯儲撤回經濟支持舉措。即便疫苗幫助人們在從事某些活動時感到安全，經濟表現仍可能遠遠達不到美聯儲的通脹和充分就業目標。
這讓市場相信，即便疫苗可能會在今年控制住冠狀病毒大流行，但美聯儲還遠沒有接近結束其超寬鬆貨幣政策。美聯儲不會像以往經濟週期那樣收緊貨幣政策，這可能是實現更健康通脹水準和更強勁就業市場的關鍵，黃金多頭有足夠理由繼續持有。
