8月份，現貨黃金有希望被終結連漲勢頭，由於疫情對經濟造成了巨大的負面衝擊，美國政府的經濟刺激方案難以實施，美聯儲也變更了政策框架，加上美國大選的不確定性都會美元造成巨大壓力，黃金依舊有諸多因素支撐多頭。
儘管美國7月份新增非農就業人數高於預期，失業率連續三個月走低，美國二季度GDP年化季率小幅上修至-31.7%，但美國至今未能有效控制疫情，帶病復蘇的經濟正面臨著巨大的不確定性。
許多黃金多頭在俄羅斯冠狀病毒疫苗獲得批准後選擇了獲利離場。但是分析人士指出，這僅僅是給了市場一個拋售黃金的理由，緩解過於擁擠的倉位。
美國兩黨在刺激方案談判上陷入僵局，這使得相當一部分依靠美國政府救助的失業人口陷入了困境，很多企業可能因為資金枯竭被迫裁員。如果僵局持續可能會進一步打擊經濟前景，並加劇美聯儲的政策壓力。
7月零售銷售數據增幅不及預期，因相當一部分申領失業金的人在救助到期之前縮減了開支並進行了儲蓄。經濟學家認為，政府支出的大幅下降將危及美國國內生產總值GDP從上季度歷史性的崩潰中復蘇。
距離美國大選投票只剩下兩個多月的時間，美國民主黨提名拜登為總統候選人，共和黨確認特朗普為總統候選人。目前多個民調顯示，拜登的支持率高於特朗普，市場擔憂美國政策的延續性可能受到影響，再加上拜登可能會增加對富人的徵稅，推升了一下擔憂情緒。
美聯儲7月會議紀要顯示，決策者普遍認為，2020年下半年的復蘇力度恐怕不再那麼強勁。關於新冠肺炎流行病疫情的健康危機將嚴重地衝擊到美國經濟活動。美聯儲官員們認為存在若干風險，其中一個就是特朗普政府無效的財政支持。
