8月3日，现货黄金在创下新高后回落，由于美元指数反弹，投资者脱出空头仓位，让美元有所喘息，但美国信用出现危机，市场对美国经济复苏情况担忧，美元涨势受到限制，后市变化将继续走弱。
评级机构惠誉上周五将美国“AAA”评级展望从“稳定”下调至“负面”，指因该国信用实力正在弱化，包括抗疫刺激政策导致赤字增加。惠誉还指出，在疫情爆发前就已不断攀升的债务与赤字，已经开始侵蚀美国长期以来的信用实力。
市场对此将作出负面反应。他表示：“这削弱了对美国金融市场的信心，确实让一些机构想要卖出美债，所以你可能会看到收益率出现些许回升，即使没人真地预计美债会违约。”
美国第二季经济创纪录萎缩32.9%，推动美债收益率降至3月份疫情爆发导致市场动荡以来的最低水平，10年期美债收益率跌至接近0.50%，削弱了美元的吸引力。这反映出人们担忧新冠病例数重新激增可能破坏美国经济复苏。
现货黄金近期不断刷新历史高位，主要动力来自：美元避险光环减弱，美国政府应对疫情失策，市场对美国货币政策进一步宽松的预期，美国国会议员对进一步财政刺激措施争论不休。
最近几周，美国首次申请失业救济人数持续反弹，可能触发美元进一步跌势的新线索很可能来自本周末即将公布的7月非农就业数据。6月非农就业岗位增加480万，超过预期的增加305.8万；但7月数据预计将显示，非农就业岗位仅增加157.8万。
随着失业率上升和确诊病例在全国范围内激增，国会对于如何提供另一批应对冠状病毒大流行救助措施陷入僵局。民主党人和共和党人还就是否在其年度支出账单中包括紧急冠状病毒现金而争论不休。
据美国政治新闻网站Politico报道，美国众议院以217-197的投票比例通过了价值1.3万亿美元的刺激法案，其中包括2100亿美元的紧急资金。但相关立法在共和党控制的参议院中没有动静，总统特朗普已经威胁要否决该法案。
