3月19日，現貨黃金持續下跌，因為美元指數瘋狂上漲，刷新自2017年以來的最高位，由於公共衛生事件使投資者大量增持現金，雖然全球央行推出各項政策，但投資者依舊大量湧入美元，加劇經濟的流動性緊縮。
面對第二次世界大戰以來全世界面臨的最大不確定性，全球主要國家政府和央行過去24小時繼續採取措施，意在增加市場流動性，平息市場恐慌情緒。
美國參議院週三(3月18日)以壓倒性票數通過立法，將提供數以十億計美元來遏制新冠疫情造成的損害，措施包括免費檢測、帶薪病假、以及擴大社福支出。
歐洲央行週三召開非既定日程會議，會後決定啟動7500億歐元的緊急購債計畫。此舉距離上一輪推出的刺激計畫不到一周時間。外界擔心危機惡化所帶來的壓力，最終可能使歐元區瓦解。
但各國政府對出行採取越來越嚴格的限制措施，人們不得不蝸居在家，消費支出大幅削減，商業活動陷於凋敝。新冠肺炎全球大流行，已造成逾20萬人染病，8000多人喪命。
美國總統特朗普估計，美國失業率可能達到20%是最糟糕的假設情景。摩根大通分析師更是預計，美國經濟下個季度將萎縮14%。
國際勞工組織(ILO)週三表示，如果各國政府不迅速採取行動，新冠病毒疫情可能引發一場全球經濟危機，將摧毀全球多達2500萬個工作崗位。
以保護工作場所的工人、刺激經濟，同時支援就業和收入。相關措施應包括擴大社會保障、通過短期工作或帶薪休假為保持就業提供支援，以及財政和稅收減免，包括對微型和中小型企業的減免。
分析師表示：“目前和2008年全球金融危機期間發生的情況類似，投資者甚至在拋售通常被視為避險工具的資產。最佳的風險規避措施是持有現金，這是合乎邏輯的，因此投資者選擇買入美元，市場不確定性大幅提升。”
