政府停摆助力黄金脱离险境
1月19日，现货黄金多头重现霸气，收复本周过半失地。美元兑一篮子货币曾一度逼近1月17日录得的近三年低点。市场对美国政府可能停摆的新一轮担忧，加剧了美元因全球货币政策愈发趋向正常化而显露出的颓势。
美国众议院周四(1月18日)通过了一项政府融资议案，让政府持续运作至2月16日，避免政府机构在本周末现有融资到期时被关闭。众议院以230-197的投票结果通过了临时拨款议案，该议案仍需获得参议院的批准。
众议院议长瑞恩(Paul Ryan)与参议院共和党领袖麦康奈尔(Mitch McConnell)表示，对于众议院周四稍晚批准拨款至2月16日感到欣慰。但部分共和党议员对于持续决议案能否获得足够的支持，并没有十足把握。
参议院多位民主党和共和党议员因为不同原因反对众议院的这项议案，因而议案在参议院的前途仍未卜。参议院在周四稍晚开始讨论众议院通过的议案。参议院民主党领袖舒默周四稍早时说，众议院的拨款议案“极有可能不会被参议院接受。”
参议院批准上述拨款议案的前景不明。因此前特朗普总统对该项临时拨款议案给出令人混淆的讯号，称议案中不应该包括将儿童健康保险计划(CHIP)的拨款延长六年。
由于这是民主党的优先议题之一，特朗普此言论使情况更为复杂。白宫后来表示，总统完全支持众议院待决议案，其中包括了这项保险计划。
由两党立场来看，目前仍无法明确判断国会能否避免联邦政府在本周末关停。2018财年从去年10月1日就开始。然由于国会迟迟没能就整体融资水平达成协议，政府目前主要是以一系列依据上个财年支出水平为准的临时支出举措在运转。
在关门威胁逐渐逼近的情况下，部分参议员已开始讨论短期展延一天或两天的可能性，以在维持政府运转的情况下继续进行协商。共和党参议员John Thune表示：“我认为有些议员希望能有一个为期数日的短期持续决议案，能够让我们为较为长远的决议案进行协商。”
由于该项支出议案命运未卜，一些政府机构开始为可能的停摆做准备。联邦机构已接获指示，准备应对周六(1月20日)全美可能有部分政府运作停摆。美国政府责任署(GAO)周四就向雇员发出一份备忘录，警告称若政府关门，则日常运作将在下周一(1月22日)停止。
如果拨款告罄，许多联邦机构将被关闭，其雇员也只能回家。但与公共安全和国家安全有关的“必要服务”将继续运转。
麦康奈尔表示，他预计众议院会通过临时拨款议案，参议院随后将进行审议。他说：“投票过程应该不会很艰难。持续决议案(continuing resolution)中并没有我们的民主党朋友真正反对的内容，”
即便包括白宫在内的美国多家政府部门陷入关门歇业状态，全美社会经济的正常运行不会受到大的干扰，此事对于在长时间内提振市场避险情绪效果有限，投资者很难指望该事件能长久提振黄金价格走势。
