联合国制裁朝鲜依旧我行我素
美国总统特朗普指责俄罗斯暗中帮助朝鲜逃避联合国制裁，他还表示，虽然朝鲜尚未研制出足以打击美国本土的导弹，但已越来越近这一目标了。1月17日，特朗普在白宫椭圆形办公室接受外媒专访时表示：“在朝鲜问题上，俄罗斯根本没有在帮我们。”
特朗普坦言称自己愿意坐下来与朝鲜进行谈判，但自己不确定坐下来谈判是否能解决实质性的问题。特朗普指出，过去与朝鲜有过谈判，但未能遏制朝鲜的核计划和导弹试射计划。特朗普称：“美朝已经谈了25年了，但也没有什么显著的成效。”
特朗普对中国极力限制对朝鲜的石油和煤炭供应一事表示赞扬，但他表示，中国政府可以采取更多行动以遏制朝鲜嚣张的行为。并且俄罗斯一直在帮助朝鲜逃避国际制裁。2017年12月来自西欧的安全人士称，俄罗斯油轮最近数月至少三次通过在海上转运向朝鲜提供燃料，这违反了对朝鲜的国际制裁。但是，俄罗斯否认违反对朝鲜制裁。
自一年前上任以来，特朗普一直在努力应对朝鲜的核试验和弹道导弹发射计划。FX678援引外媒的报道，特朗普称，朝鲜正在稳步推进向美国发射导弹的计划。朝鲜在2017年11月进行了最后一次洲际弹道导弹试射之后称，这次试射使美国大陆处于射程之内。一些专家认为，朝鲜的导弹有能力射到美国。
不过，朝鲜还没有提供任何证据能证明它已破除了所有的技术障碍，这其中就包括研制一种能在洲际弹道导弹上可靠地运载重型核弹头的再入飞行器。但朝鲜可能很快就会实现这一目标了。一些情报官员表示，朝鲜可能会在2018年年底完成这件事。
此外，对于朝韩间关于朝鲜参加平昌冬奥会的对话，特朗普表示欢迎。特朗普称，这可能是化解这一危机的最初阶段。但是，特朗普拒绝说美国是否会对朝鲜进行有限的、先发制人的打击，以向朝鲜宣示美国是认真的。
美国国务卿蒂勒森本周三指责俄罗斯，认为俄罗斯没有执行联合国对朝鲜核武器项目的所有制裁措施，并说俄罗斯方面的举动可能会令人感到沮丧。蒂勒森告诉记者，美国总统特朗普指责俄罗斯暗中帮助朝鲜逃避联合国制裁，但当谈到细节问题时，他却不愿透露出更多了。
蒂勒森称：“在我们看来，朝鲜并没有乖乖的实施所有联合国对它的制裁措施，且有证据表明他们可能会一些制裁措施置若罔闻。”
