英国央行副行长康利夫周四指出，市场有关英国央行在2019年前不会加息的预期是不合理的。
他表示，有些投资者甚至押注英国央行可能降息，这些预期是不受英国经济基本面所支持的。
他称，“我没有看到过去三至四周里的任何经济消息可以造成投资者预期发生如此大转变。”
“我对全球的大局观并未随着市场预期一起发生变化。我认为我们，特别是在过去几年，一直处于金融危机后缓慢复苏的过程之中。”
近期的市场动荡促使很多交易员重新评估其对英国经济前景的展望。许多人现在认为，英国央行在未来三年都不会加息。
英国央行行长卡尼此前表示，本月的一个不利的全球环境很可能促使英国央行将目前0.5%的历史地位的利率水平维持得更久一些。但是，决策者们暗示，如果他们等待逾1年后才收紧货币政策，那么英国经济可能过热。
英国央行货币政策委员会委员Sir Jon表示，市场对此的押注要么是错误的，要么反映了低增长与低通胀是新常态的这一观点。
他还称，“市场可能已对全球经济变得非常悲观。”
但他坚称认为，英国经济依然健康，消费者信心与企业投资仍然很高。但是，他承认，疲软的生产力增长依旧令人担忧。
他称，“如果综合考虑这些因素，那么我发现的是经济仍在缓慢复苏。”
此前，英国央行货币政策委员会委员麦卡弗蒂(Ian McCafferty)表示，他放弃支持加息是因为他预计英国工资增速将更缓慢。
他称，“工资与通胀上涨的动力并未消失，但已有所减弱。”
