素有“美联储通讯社”之称的华尔街日报记者John Hilsenrath周一(8月3日)表示，美联储(FED)官员们对薪资增长到何种程度才与其经济目标相符的概念很模糊，当然了美联储官员乐意看到薪资加快增长，这会使其对美国经济更接近其双重目标(即就业健康增长和通胀温和上升)充满信心。
但Hilsenrath表示，薪资、就业和通胀之间的关系还不清楚，所以美联储官员们不指望较快的薪资增长能成为现实。
Hilsenrath指出，美联储主席耶伦(Yellen)在3月的讲话中表示称“已准备好加息，甚至是在看到有明显的迹象表明薪资增速加快前加息，这也就是说，在此之前如果薪资增速、核心消费者价格指数(CPI)和其它衡量潜在通胀压力的指标如果走弱的话，耶伦觉得加息是不合适的”。
Hilsenrath称：“鉴于耶伦的立场，本周五(8月7日)公布的就业报告不大可能会改变美联储关于何时提高短期利率的长期争议点。美国薪资增长似乎停滞不前，但没有明显的走弱，这正是耶伦不采取加息行动的原因，不过这也为美联储官员带来了新的疑问，且不利于美联储官员建立好其希望建立的信心，即相信美国就业市场接近充分就业且通胀率朝着2%的目标前进。”
Hilsenrath还表示，美联储9月的货币政策会议将会扣人心弦。
