沙特副王储兼国防部长Mohammed bin Salman周四(1月7日)接受外媒采访时称，沙特与伊朗开战将是这个地区大灾难的开始，也会对世界其他地方产生非常重大的影响，因此沙特与伊朗之间不会开战。
他表示，“我们根本不会预料这个结果(开战)。无论是谁，如果推向这个方向，那就属于精神不正常了。沙特不会容许这样的发展。
由于上周末沙特处决什叶派激进教士Nimr，引发示威人群冲击沙特驻德黑兰大使馆，本周沙特已宣布同伊朗断交。此后，巴林、苏丹也追随沙特，宣布同伊朗断交；阿联酋宣布降低对伊朗的外交级别，召回驻伊朗大使，并减少两国外事活动。
另外，伊朗周四指控称，沙特空袭了伊朗驻也门首都的大使馆。这一事件可能导致本已极度紧张的伊沙关系进一步恶化。
