欧洲央行首席经济学家普雷特(Peter Praet)在接受一瑞士报纸采访时重申，如果经济动荡加剧，央行准备好调整其万亿欧元购债计划。
在普雷特发表这些讲话以前，欧洲央行执委科尔(Benoit Coeure)上周五曾表示，欧元区和美国货币政策迥异。
美联储官员以及普雷特的讲话巩固了美联储与欧洲央行政策路径背道而驰的观点。美联储加息预计将促使资金流入美国，从而提振美元。
分析师称，如果美联储上周加息，将会打压欧元兑美元，从而支持欧洲经济。但联储决定保持利率不变，使欧洲央行面临的进一步放宽政策压力加大。
欧元区跟美国一样，也深陷低通胀的“泥潭”。但不同于耶伦，欧洲央行行长德拉基(Mario Draghi)不能依靠内需来提振物价。不论是否因为美联储延后加息而带动欧元走强，或是因为新兴市场的拖累，经济学家认为，必要时欧洲央行承诺加码1.1万亿欧元购债计划的可能性越来越大。
