由前基地组织武装分子组成的集团控制了也门南方一个主要的油港，原油周四（4月16日）进一步上扬，布伦特原油触及日内低点62.00后大幅上扬，刷新逾四个月高点64.86美元/桶，美国原油（NYMEX）自欧市触及的日内低点55.07反弹刷新近四个月高点57.42美元/桶，随后回吐部分涨幅。
武装分子占领的港口是Hadramout地区最大的油港之一，日均出口原油12万桶至14万桶。
尽管也门是一个相对较小的生产者，但不断升级的冲突可能影响到邻国沙特，这加剧了市场的担忧。
芝加哥Price Futures Group分析师Phil Flynn表示，“基地武装分子占领也门油港的消息引起油价进一步上涨。”同时，美元走软也提振了原油。
石油输出国组织（OPEC）数据显示，尽管低油价开始抑制美国原油产量，石油输出国组织3月原油日产量增加了81万桶。
美国能源信息署（EIA）周三公布的数据显示，美国上周原油库存增幅创1月2日以来最低，这意味着原油供应增幅可能开始放缓，美国原油（NYMEX）周三因此上涨了近6.0%。
周三的报告显示，美国原油，包括北达科他州页岩油产量开始回落，有油价下跌抑制了生产。
石油输出国组织（OPEC）和其他重要生产商间的谈判可能意味着他们试图就减产达成协议以促进油价上涨，但多数分析师认为，协议是不可能的。
路透技术分析师Wang Tao表示，布伦特原油近期可能升至70美元/桶，随后可能大幅下跌。
