英国金融服务管理局于当地时间5月23日发表声明，指出巴克莱银行前交易员操纵伦敦金定价机制，这是全球贵金属市场投行的第一宗因操纵伦敦金价而被处罚的事件，再次掀起市场对更改现有黄金定价机制的讨论，巴莱克银行被处以约2600万英镑（约4370万美元）的罚款。
声明表示在2012年6月28日，巴克莱前交易员丹尼尔·詹姆斯·普伦基特利用巴克莱银行系统漏洞，通过操纵当天的黄金定价机制从而获利。巴克莱未能妥善处理和客户间的利益冲突，且疏于管理系统的漏洞，使得私自控价行为从2004持续至2013。
除了黄金定价外，被用于长期融资及贷款协议的黄金远期利率，黄金掉期结算利率等黄金衍生品也有可能被操纵。2013年12月，德意志银行、苏格兰皇家银行和花旗集团等在内的多家银行因操作伦敦银行间拆借利率遭到创纪录的17亿欧元(23亿美元)罚款之后，更多的银行因操纵金融市场行为开始遭到处罚。
上周时候欧盟竞争委员会委员表示，初步认定法国农业信贷银行、汇丰银行和摩根大通三家金融机构涉嫌操控欧元利率衍生品价格。他们可能违反了欧盟的反垄断规则，以致影响到欧元衍生产品的利率定价。
