12月9日，現貨黃金出現巨大跌幅，刷新近幾日以來的最低點，由於美國刺激法案的談判受到阻礙，讓美元走高黃金承壓，此外疫苗取得更多樂觀進展也提振了市場對經濟復蘇的希望，減少黃金避險需求。
週三，加拿大批准了輝瑞和BioNTech的新冠肺炎疫苗，此前一天，英國成為第一個開始大規模接種疫苗的西方國家。
特朗普政府提出一項9160億美元的援助計畫，其中包括對受到疫情影響的美國人發放支票，但參議院多數黨領袖麥康奈爾聲稱民主黨領導人不合作。美國國會參議院共和黨領導人麥康奈爾稱，國會山民主黨領導層（參議院民主黨領導人舒默和眾議院議長佩洛西）正在拋棄共和黨的救助建議。
分析師表示，麥康奈爾沒有表現出任何屈服於民主黨人的跡象，此後美元走強，金價回落。他還指出，美國似乎即將批准新冠疫苗、本周圍繞刺激方案將進行密集談判等因素將使金價大幅波動。
央行需求下降，ETF的出售對黃金價格構成最大威脅，該行將2021年平均金價預測下調至1907美元/盎司。
分析師表示，目前黃金價格的走勢幾乎與2011年至2013年中期的走勢幾乎一致，但是黃金目前的走勢要比當時快得多。他認為，歷史似乎正在重演，如果真是這樣的話，黃金後市將不容樂觀。他指出，黃金目前已經回升至9月份的低點附近，這一價格水準在之前是一個強有力的支撐位，但現在已經變成阻力位了，這意味著，調整性的上漲行情可能很快就會結束。
