6月5日晚，美國勞工部公佈了美國5月非農資料，資料顯示，就業人口增加250萬，平均薪資年率明顯增加，失業率有所降低。市場分析，5月非農資料好於預期，表明失業情況在4月底已經見頂了。
美國4月季調後非農就業人口變動修正為減少2068.7萬，初值減少2053.7萬。4月私營企業非農就業人數變動修正為減少1972.4萬，初值減少1955.7萬；4月季調後製造業就業人口變動修正為減少132.4萬，初值減少133萬；4月平均每小時工資月率修正為4.7%，初值4.7%；4月平均每小時工資年率修正為8.0%，初值7.9%。
儘管當前的失業人數仍舊處於令人驚訝的高位，但最近的資料顯示，勞動力市場的至暗時刻已經過去，重返崗位的人數可能也比此前預期的要多。當前美國經濟衰退的特點是，稱是“暫時性失業”的失業人數大幅增加。但究竟有多少臨時性失業變成永久性失業仍是一個需要回答的關鍵問題。
美國總統特朗普表示，就業報告表現“真的很好”，30多年以來從未看到過這樣的數字。
考慮到勞工部公佈的所有申請失業救濟人數中都有明顯的惡化跡象，家庭調查就業率的反彈尤其令人驚訝。從4月份的封鎖風暴中，5月份的反彈速度快於預期，這本身並不意味著復蘇將是v型的，但會排除對第二季度GDP收縮的低端預期。
