英國GDP資料表現良好，但英鎊的上行空間有限

2月11日，英鎊兌美元有所走高，但由於英國和歐盟在協商上沒有達成一致，但是英國第四季度的GDP資料表示英國經濟並沒有陷入停滯，但市場分析表示，英國和歐盟的談判將充滿困難。
英國第四季度GDP年率與第三季度持平，季率符合預期，且在11月出現驚人的月度負增長之後，12月的反彈幅度比預期更為樂觀。儘管消費者支出只增長了0.1%，這是2015年底以來最低的增長率，占主導地位的服務業增長放緩。商業投資下降1%，為2016年底以來最大降幅。但能錄得此資料也表明，英國去年第四季度經濟並未陷入停滯。
英國較為樂觀的GDP資料說明在詹森贏得大選後，英國經濟有所回升，這從貿易賬遠超預期中也可以看出，儘管歐英的貿易談判並沒有明顯進展。
英國從1月31日起不再是歐盟的正式成員，但它還沒有確定與其他27個歐盟國家未來的貿易安排。據報導，一份被長鏡頭相機捕捉到的談判檔顯示，政府希望為其金融業獲得“全面、永久的等價決策”。
這將意味著，如果英國遵循與歐盟相同的監管規則，歐盟將在特定活動中給予市場准入。金融服務業約占英國的7%英國議會的一份報告顯示，中國在2018年的總產出將超過美國。這些公司目前被允許在歐盟各國自由運營，比如，總部位於英國的美國公司可以向總部位於歐盟的公司出售金融產品。然而，歐盟已經表示，如果這種情況繼續下去，將取決於英國是否選擇遵循歐洲的標準。
英國財政大臣Sajid Javid表示，英國政府將不再遵守歐盟針對金融服務行業的規則，但希望就銀行業達成“持久”的貿易關係。英國財政部正在就與歐盟的貿易談判起草一份詳細的計畫。Javid堅稱英國將實行與歐盟不同的規定。
歐盟委員會主席馮德萊恩表示，歐盟已經準備好和英國討論所有的貿易協定模式。澳大利亞與歐盟-英國關係的協定意味著基本的世貿組織條款。
