美國關稅恐遭報復性反擊：5月18日，日本政府告知世界貿易組織，已準備好採取報復措施，反對美國對其鋼鐵和鋁製品徵收關稅。日本外務省在一份聲明中表示，日本政府通知了世界貿易組織，有權對價值500億日元（約合4.51億美元）的美國商品徵收關稅，這相當於美國對日本金屬產品徵收關稅的額度。隨後歐盟宣佈可能對28億歐元（約合33億美元）美國商品對等徵收25%的關稅，並不排除後續階段擴大報復行動。目前僅韓國與美國達成了永久性豁免協議。
