纸黄金是一种个人凭证式黄金，投资者按银行报价在账面上买卖虚拟黄金，交易体记录只在黄金存折账户上体现，不发生实物金提取和交割。以工商银行个人账户黄金为例，其交易特点如下：

从上述介绍中可以看到，工商银行的纸黄金业务门槛是十分低，美元账户0.01盎司就可以起投，即表示若当前国际金价为1200美元/盎司，那么只需要12美元即可操作；而人民币账户1克黄金即可起投，即表示若当前国内金价是230元/克，那么只需要230元人民币就可起投。
但需注意的是，若纸黄金账户为先卖出后买入或双向交易账户的话，在第一次进行纸黄金投资时，银行会自动为大家开立保证金账户，当保证金比例达到或低于20%时，银行会自动帮您平仓。其中，保证金比例等于账面盈亏与保证金账户金额之和除以您先卖出交易的冻结保证金。
