1、白银对于经济方面的变动更为敏感，而黄金对于货币方面的变动更为敏感。
白银需求中有很大一部分是源于工业需求，占比约40%。相反，黄金需求基本上都是由于纯粹的投资需求和珠宝需求。由于白银与工业的密切关系，所以白银对于经济方面因素的变化比较敏感，比如工业生产力、制造业需求等等。
2、白银和黄金来自于不同的产品资源，这对于二者的价格也会起到很重要的影响。
大部分的白银都是作为铅、锌、铜、黄金等金属的附属产品生产出来的。这样一来，白银的生产和白银的价格之间的联系就不想黄金生产和黄金价格之间的联系那样紧密了。
3、与黄金相比，白银的波动性更高。
市场规模小且流动性低，加之工业与储值用途之间的需求波动，这些导致白银交易的波动性增加。
近年来白银的波动性明显比黄金更高。可是，对积极进取的投资者来说，这意味着低买高卖的机会。过去十年来，有七年白银都有两位数的增长，也同样在七年里业绩跑赢标普500。全球金融危机以来，白银投资急剧增加，投资白银的渠道更多了。白银与黄金一样用于对冲通胀和经济压力。
