钯金是世界上最稀有的贵金属之一，世界上只有俄罗斯和南非等少数国家出产，每年总产量不到黄金的5%。目前国际钯金价格比铂金便宜不少，但在历史上国际钯金价格曾经高于铂金。近期钯金涨势很猛，北京的钯金价格已经达到268元/克。
钯金首饰在中国市场一直销售不佳，首饰行业对钯金新原料的购买量从2006年的99.5万盎司下降至07年的74.5万盎司。总的来说，钯金市场将会出现172万盎司的供应过剩。这些过剩量，大多数被一些包括对冲基金在内的投资者通过贵金属交易平台所购买，而小部分则被新的交易所交易基金所购买。因此钯金的价格超过了基于市场供求关系的预期。但近期，铂金和黄金的价格出现上升，钯金的价格迅速上涨。
实物钯金变现难
目前钯金首饰市场表现非常不稳定，前途难以把握。据了解，现在钯金还没有一个低成本的回购路径。另外，钯金价格虽然长期看涨，但投资的最好形式是既能进行短线，也能长线，并且容易出手，钯金首饰目前并不具备这些基本前提。在广大商家大量制造，而消费者还在犹豫的时候进入，存在很大的风险。即使炒钯金可行，也只能少量投资，不会有多大的收益。只有等到上海黄金交易所推出类似于黄金的交易品种后，面对个人炒钯金的渠道才会顺畅。
