贵金属市场交易价格走势可基本分为趋势行情与区间盘整行情两种。很多投资者平时都会有意无意地用到一种工具，就是密集盘整区。所谓密集盘整区，就是在一段时间内，黄金白银价格都维持在某一个价格区间内横向运行，没有创出新高或者新低。表现特证为多个高点与多个低点都是处在差不多的价格水平。
分析贵金属价格密集盘整区的支撑阻力意义，先从贵金属价格密集盘整区的形成说起。假设价格呈现一段涨势，多头不断加入，报价一再提高；空头则节节败退，或反手做多转化为多头。
上述行为一定会不断推高贵金属交易价格。但任何市场都有起有落，当交易价格推动到某一价位，一部分多头选择获利离场，随着平仓的多头越来越多，价格上升越犹豫。空头开始伺机介入，最后此消彼长之下，价格在A价位出现下跌。
之后价格跌至B价位，出于交易价格之前上涨的考虑，不少多头重新入场再次承托了A价位。
之后，多空双方就开始在A与B价位之间展开争夺，双方的力量在一段时间内达到了均衡，双方争持不下的结果就是，交易价格在A到B之间横向运行，从而形成密集盘整区，直到双方的均衡打破，交易价格方能突破打破盘整态势。也就是说，价格密集盘整区可以提供有效的支撑与阻力。
