银饰发黑发黄是由于银的化学性质决定的，银的化学性质不象黄金或者铂金那么稳定，表面未经过特殊处理，成色92.5%以上的纯银，极容易因氧化或强光照射而失去原有的光泽。即使经过特殊处理，若非经常性佩戴，一段时间后，仍可能有表面色泽泛黄的情况产生。银饰保养需要注意以下几点：
1、避免与发胶、香水、护肤品放在一起；
2、洗衣、洗澡、干粗活应取下银饰；
3、用擦银布常擦常新，永保首饰银光璨璨；
4、银饰的最佳保养方法是天天佩戴，因人体油脂可使银产生自然温润的光泽；
5、银饰接触温泉水或硫化物，易使表面产生变化，因此应避免于温泉地区佩戴；
6、银质氧化时呈现淡咖啡色，可以软布沾少许银油擦拭，或以洗银水浸泡，亦可以擦银布直接擦拭(擦银布含有银保养成分，不可水洗，擦拭产生的污痕为银，可多次使用)；
7、银饰在不戴时应密闭保存。
