二、黄金ETF为什么不能做空
黄金ETF是一种开放式基金，其标的物是实物黄金，而实物黄金的买卖是不能做空的，因为实物黄金的买卖只能通过卖出价高于买入价，才能实现盈利。因此作为以此为标的的基金，同样不能做空。
其中黄金ETF的运行原理为，大型黄金生产商在基金公司寄售实物黄金，接着基金公司以这些实物黄金为依托，在交易所内公开发行基金份额，销售给各类投资者，投资者在基金存续期间内可以自由赎回。其中商业银行分别担任基金托管行和实物保管行。
三、黄金ETF与现货黄金的关系
由于基金公司每次交易的黄金总量较大，因此黄金ETF的持仓量增减一般会影响到现货黄金的价格。当黄金ETF持仓量增多时，表示基金公司对黄金的需求量增多，这一般会刺激市场对黄金的需求量增加，从而引起黄金的价格上涨。反之，则会刺激需求下降，从而黄金价格的下跌。
综上所述，黄金ETF不能做空，其交易原则与股票类似，只有当其本身价值增大时，才能实现盈利。但是对于现货黄金的投资者而言，黄金ETF的持仓量是研判黄金价格走势的参考指标之一，十分实用。
