中国官方于昨日公布的制造业PMI数据录得2012年8月以来最低水平，继人民币贬值之后，市场对中国经济成长的担忧再次升温，导致亚太股市整体重挫下跌，其中日经指数暴跌近4%。欧美方面，欧元区各国以及美国的制造业PMI数据均表现不佳。其中欧元区只有德国制造业活动表现优异，意大利和法国的8月制造业分别呈现最慢增速和最快萎缩。全球原油需求回升前景渺茫，国际油价周二暴跌接近8%，与此前连续三天的上涨走势形成鲜明对比。
