美国供应管理协会(ISM)周二发布报告称，美国8月ISM制造业采购经理人指数(PMI)为55.7，预期为54.0，7月该数据为55.4。强劲的美国数据仅短暂打压黄金价格，因金价受到避险买盘的支撑。当天，美国和法国官员再度纷纷就叙利亚问题释放强硬措辞，令投资者的恐慌情绪进一步发酵。虽然，美国国会要到下周一(9月9日)复会后才会就是否要对叙利亚动武一事进行表决，而法国方面也表示不会在美国国会投票之前单方面采取行动，意味着在没有特别重大意外状况的背景下，西方国家介入叙利亚的军事行动料不会在近日开始。
