黄金出借利率是借进黄金的成本。就像借进美元需要支付一定的利息，然后把美元返还给出借人一样，借进黄金的人在借进黄金时，也要支付一定的借入成本，然后再把黄金返还给出借人。黄金借入成本以盎司计算，而非美元。
通常各国中央银行是黄金的主要出借方，而借入黄金的一般是大型黄金交易商、黄金企业、珠宝加工企业等。影响出借利率的主要有两大因素，一是现货黄金和期货黄金需求的差异，另外一个就是当前借入美元的利率。高出借利率通常会导致拥有黄金库存的人急于卖出黄金，即便这个人很想再增加库存他也会这么干，因为既然未来可以以更低的成本买入黄金，从财务优势的角度出发，他一定会这么做。
正因为如此，高出借利率会导致很容易买到现货黄金，但这种情况往往不能持久。 GOFO=黄金远期报价利率，这些利率允许投资者出借黄金，进行美元互换交易。
