投资黄金必须为进入实际交易市场制定行动蓝图，制定出一个进入和退出任一交易的起点，制定起点后，价格水平的变化就可归结为上升、下降或维持原状，当价格水平发生如上所述三种变化中的任何一种，交易人就可根据计划做出卖或买的决定。
制定计划时，尽管需要考虑许多关键因素，但核心问题始终是在什么情况下退出已经进入的交易。这实际上包括三个退出计划。其一，必须有一个接受损失的计划，一旦交易失利，就应坦然退出。其二，必须有一个接受赢利的计划，一旦赢利目标达到，即可满意而归。其三，必须有一个计划，它使交易人在发现市价在相当一段时间内不会发生重要变化时退出交易。
要退出一个已显赔钱的交易，最有效的程序就是发出停止损失令单。当然这样做的前提是交易人心中有数，他究竟愿意承受多大的损失。如果他在进入交易前已定下可接受的损失程度，那么，市价一达到事先已定下的这个点，他唯一能做的就是发出停止损失令单。
对于一个正在赢钱的交易，如何制定交易中的指令就不像制定计划应付赔钱交易的指令那么容易了。这里存在着多种可能。
如果一个交易人在进入交易前已定下赢利目标，那么一个明显的可能就是一旦达到这个目标，他就立即发出一文限价令单，从而退出此项交易。还有一种可能是交易人一直让利润上涨，直到某种价格变化朝输钱方向转化的迹象出现。
在这种情况下，退出计划就可能定为：在停止损失点卖出，或者在指数Ｘ给出卖出信号时卖出；哪种情况先出现就按哪种方法行事。不论使用哪一种赢利计划，至为重要的一点是，交易人必须认识到，交易的终极目标是接受利润。
