纽约时报15日报导，桑默斯在写给欧巴马的信中表示，即便他获得提名、参议院的任命讨论过程很可能会是非常激烈，而这将不符合FED、美国政府甚至是美国经济复苏的利益。参议院银行委员会至少有三名民主党议员反对桑默斯接任FED主席，这意味着白宫至少得争取三位共和党籍议员支持才能让任命案走出银行委员会门口。
桑默斯的出局意味着鸽派色彩鲜明的叶伦出线机率大增，美国公债殖利率可望持续维持在低档！嘉实XQ全球赢家系统的报价显示，美元兑日圆16日在亚洲汇市交易时段跳空下跌，迄今(截至台北时间16日上午6时30分)最低跌至98.43、创9月2日以来新低。另一方面，黄金现货价上涨0.66%至1,333.40美元/盎司，稍早最高升至1,334.87美元/盎司。
萨默斯退出美联储主席角逐将在短期内对黄金价格有积极影响，但不会改变长期价格走势。
