印度人民党领袖以30年来最大的一场选举胜利，击败执政的国大党，结束了尼赫鲁-甘地王朝，且在印度由联合政府执政25年后，首次出现了一个议会多数政府。莫迪赢得一边倒的胜利，可以为他提供足够空间，推进现任总理辛格在23年前开始而最近几年陷入停滞的改革。押注莫迪获胜，外资已经在过去六个月中向印度股市和债市投入逾160亿美元，目前持有孟买交易所上市股票逾22%的市值，摩根士丹利估计这差不多是2,800亿美元。
穆迪主权评级分析师Atsi Sheth表示，在评价印度的主权信用状况时，重点将放在印度新政府如何将财政赤字降至可持续的水平“一个对印度信用评级有利的因素是，该国是否能够将财政赤字/GDP之比从目前逾4%的水平大幅降下来，”Sheth在接受路透的电话采访时表示。穆迪目前给予印度的评级为”Baa3″，为投资级别评级中最低的，将其评级展望定为”稳定“。
