美国劳工部1月16日公布，经季节调整后，截至1月11日为止当周，首次申请失业救济金人数较前周修正值减少2,000人至326,000人，创下六周新低。根据彭博社的调查，经济学家的预估值为32.8万人。上周首次申请失业救济金人数的4周移动平均值较前周修正值减少13,500人至335,000人。
截至1月4日为止当周，经季节调整后，连续申请失业救济金人数较前一周的修正值增加174,000人至3,030,000人。当周连续申请失业救济金人数的4周移动平均值较前一周的修正值增加38,250人至2,908,750人。截至1月4日为止当周，经过季节性因素调整后的保险失业率较前周下滑0.1个百分点成为2.1%。
彭博社报导，RBS Securities Inc. 经济学家Omair Sharif表示，就业市场的改善主要来自于裁员的减少，企业已经较有意愿保持现有人力，但更重要的是能够看到就业的增加，这才能提高经济的动能。美国12月非农就业人口仅增加7.4万人，远低于市场预期。
