耶伦听证会上言论成迷

美国联邦储备委员会(美联储/FED)理事暨副主席叶伦上周在参议院听证会上的表现受到普遍赞扬，其中最能说明问题的不是她说了什么，而是她没表达的内容及其讳莫如深的应对方式。
在周四持续两小时的听证会上，这位被奥巴马总统提名为下任美联储主席的候选人一直面带微笑且频频点头，但是在对近期货币政策选择的看法上，她没有向参议院金融委员会透露任何的实质线索。
她明确表示，她认为继续大力促进美国经济增长和就业很重要。但是，她的表态没有比上个月美联储政策委员会声明提供更多信息。
参议员们问到美联储维持购债的可能持续时间，她温和地表示购债不可能永远持续下去，而参议员们看似对此表示满意。她没有显示出是倾向于下个月还是明年缩减购债的迹象。
分析师原本就预计，她的表态不会有意比美联储政策委员会的决定抢先一步。一方面，现任美联储主席贝南克要到明年1月31日才离任。叶伦的接任提名预计将在参议院全体会议上获得确认。
现年67岁、曾做过教授的叶伦在国会自如地应对提问，又没有无意间透露出未来政策的线索，这被视为是关键的成功首秀。
“她明白如果对提问给出一定的解答，又不会泄露新的信息。这是很了不起的表现，”前美联储资深经济学家Stephen Oliner表示。
第二个她守口如瓶的问题是，她如何看待强化美联储在可能加息时间方面的前瞻性指引。
这方面她要感谢参议员们的相助。虽然外界盛传美联储可能很快就决定将一直维持近零利率至少到失业率降至6.0%，但没有人就此发问。当前升息的失业率门槛是6.5%。
不过，叶伦在其他问题上的表现令人毫不怀疑，如果真被问道这个问题，她也会围绕该问题进行不偏不倚的经济学上的讨论，而且不会泄露自己的立场。
这也是她回答弗吉尼亚州参议员MarkWarner就降低超额储备金利率(IOER)进行质询时所采用的策略。部分官员认为降低超额储备金利率将给予经济更多刺激。
