薪酬停滞有损美国经济增长

美国经济复苏进入第四年，工人薪酬的涨幅仍不及通货膨胀。停滞不前的薪酬会侵蚀消费者的消费能力，不会给经济增长带来丝毫助益。这就意味着消费者更加难以进行从买冰箱到下馆子等各类消费，而这类消费是推动美国经济增长的主要动力。
经济学家将此归咎于三个因素：
1、经济增长依然低迷：连续三个季度，经季节因素调整后的年增速都不到2%，低于衰退前平均3.5%的水平。这实际上遏制了通胀。通胀水平一直接近或低于美联储认为对经济健康的2%。
2、企业开始改变管理薪酬的方式：过去，公司在经济陷入困境时减薪，在经济扩张时加薪。但1986年以来的三次衰退中，特别是2007年-2009年的衰退中，公司尽量减少减薪，而是裁员以便让留下来的员工满意。结果就造成，为补偿从未进行的减薪，企业现在可能限制加薪，这样使得加薪的上涨性趋缓。
3、全国化继续给加薪带来压力：由于新技术的出现，美国人越来越多地与全世界的工人展开竞争。
通往加薪的唯一道路是经济走强或特种技能需求增多。
