12月29日，現貨黃金在1880關口附近震盪，由於美國追加刺激措施提振了黃金的吸引力，拖累美元的上漲力度，但目前參議院共和黨阻撓了補貼法案的實施，加上投資者對於風險較高的產品有更大興趣，抑制了金價上漲。
儘管缺乏強勁的後續買盤，金價在歐洲市場早盤略微抬高。在昨日觸及1900美元高位後，金價開始下滑，但在週二重新獲得正面牽引力，並受到了美國刺激措施取得進展的支撐。此前週一美國眾議院投票支持每人發放支票的金額從600美元提升至2000美元。另一方面，這一消息拖累了主導金價的美元。從目前全球股市普遍看漲的情緒可以明顯看出，投資者對風險較高資產的興趣有所增加。風險流動削弱了對傳統避險資產的需求，並抑制了金價的進一步上漲，至少目前如此。
美國參議院民主黨人試圖將新一輪紓困法案中對個人的直接補貼金額從600美元提高至2000美元，而共和黨不顧特朗普最初提出了這項要求，執意阻撓民主黨的努力。參議院民主黨（少數黨）領袖舒默提出批准該法案的動議，遭參議院共和黨（多數黨）領袖麥康奈爾否決。
儘管特朗普大力推動，但把這項支出提高到4640億美元的想法在共和黨議員中並不受歡迎，他們日益關心國家債務上升問題。週一，僅44名共和黨人加入到231名民主黨人的行列，通過將個人補貼金額提高至2000美元的法案。在參議院，只有少數共和黨人公開聲援該法案。
美元的疲軟表現為黃金提供了支撐，但如果美國進一步刺激的話，黃金市場的支撐將很難持續，市場基本上已經計入了影響，美元也可能因此走高。美聯儲進一步採取措施的空間已經不大了，因此黃金上行有壓力。
