10月20日，西歐元對美元震盪走高，由於美國大選的不確定性對美元形成施壓，對歐元以及英鎊有明顯提振，但歐洲多國的疫情持續惡化可能會對歐元區經濟造成一定的打壓，目前市場關注歐洲央行11月利率決議是否有新的消息。
大選方面，“藍色浪潮”可能意味著高達2.5萬億美元的刺激專案。目前整個市場的兩大焦點，美國大選和美國新一輪刺激之間，其實有著相當大的關係。不少市場人士都認為所謂的“藍色浪潮”即美國民主黨的獲勝意味著更大規模的刺激。可能包括了一個一季度的刺激案，之後有基建和環境立法。在這種情況下，我們預計增稅後得以出現的醫保和其他福利專案的擴大將在三季度通過。
美國財政部長姆努欽與眾議院議長佩洛西將於週一下午再度磋商刺激方案。此前，佩洛西把週二設為大選前達成協議的最後期限。一位不願具名的知情人士稱，姆努欽和佩洛西在上週末試圖敲定全國病毒檢測計畫，這是導致刺激協議難以達成的幾大障礙之一。
不過歐洲多國疫情的惡化限制了歐元的上行空間。據報導，在全球新冠肺炎確診病例突破4000萬的同時，歐洲新冠肺炎死亡病例數超過了25萬。歐洲因此成為繼拉美和加勒比地區之後死亡病例第二多的地區，後者的死亡病例已超過35萬。歐洲多國再次強化防疫措施以抵禦病毒傳播。
報導稱，歐洲最近7天內死亡病例超過8000例，這也是5月中旬以來歐洲疫情最為嚴重的一周。報導指出，英國仍然是歐洲新冠死亡病例最多的國家，約占歐洲死亡病例總數的六分之一。英國仍在與病毒作艱難的鬥爭，地方官員對政府希望施加更嚴格限制措施的意願有所抗拒。
報導還指出，在春天相對遠離第一波疫情的瑞士現在也遭遇病例數激增。860萬人口的瑞士因新冠疫情死亡的人數已達1822人。捷克是歐洲大陸感染率以及10萬人口死亡率最高的國家。捷克政府要求軍隊在布拉格郊外建設一家500個床位的臨時醫院。
各國政府預計，即使經濟在2021年反彈，赤字仍將保持在高位，總額大概略低於7000億歐元，占歐盟GDP的6%左右。歐洲央行數據顯示，歐元區預算赤字上一次達到峰值是在2010年初，當時水準占GDP比重約為6.6%，公共債務高企，並為隨後的歐元區主權債務危機埋下了伏筆。
