9月28日，由於美元走軟，而且風險相關領域的人氣有所改善，歐元有所上漲。不過由於美國總統特朗普和民主黨總統候選人拜登首次參加大選辯論，美國政局成為市場熱門話題。投資者仍需警惕市場可能出現預期外狀況。
在特朗普與拜登的首次總統大選辯論後，此後兩位副總統候選人彭斯和哈裏斯將在10月7日進行辯論，而總統候選人之間的第二、三場辯論將在10月15日和22日舉行。
此外有關確認新的最高法院法官的進展也吸引市場注意力，據報導由SSRS民調公司為美國有線電視新聞網開展的最新民調顯示，近六成美國人認為，應該由今年11月勝選的總統來提名人選，填補露絲·巴德·金斯伯格離世留下的最高法院大法官空位。
與此同時，有相當一部分公眾(占38%)認為特朗普總統對於大法官的提名使最高法院變得更糟，而且大多數人(占54%)不贊成參議院修改規則，使得最高法院大法官的提名人選只需獲得簡單多數支持——而不是傳統的60張贊成票——就可以進入投票表決環節。
報導稱，總的來說有59%的受訪者認為，應該由即將舉行的總統大選的勝者來選擇填補金斯伯格職位的人選。2016年3月的輿論則與之相反。當時有57%的受訪者認為，應該由奧巴馬總統而不是當年11月當選的總統來提名人選，填補安東寧·斯卡利亞去世留下的最高法院大法官空缺。在此次最新民調中，有41%的受訪者認為，應該現在就由特朗普來提名這一職位的人選。
截至八月的五個月內，歐元兌美元自1.0636漲至1.2011，匯價大幅上漲，重新激起歐洲央行對通縮的擔憂。歐洲央行管委維斯科周日表示，歐元匯率近期走強令人擔憂，如果這將通貨膨脹率進一步推離目標，歐洲央行將做出反應。
