由於美國6月非農數據向好，提振了市場的冒險情緒，英鎊兌美元也隨之從低位反彈，但隨後轉跌，市場擔心疫情的持續增加會引發新一輪的封鎖，延後全球經濟復蘇，不願承擔過大風險，脫歐談判仍未取得實質突破。
英國和歐盟有關脫歐後雙方未來關係的談判在週四(7月2日)提前一天結束，警告稱雙方之間仍存在巨大分歧。根據雙方的聲明，後續磋商仍將按計畫下周在倫敦繼續進行，政府官員稱提前結束談判並不表示雙方已經談崩。按照原定計畫，本周這輪談判最後一次磋商應該是週五在雙方首席談判代表弗羅斯特和巴尼耶之間進行。
英國的詹森表示，對貿易協定比歐盟首席談判代表巴尼耶更樂觀。我們需要達成一項良好的協議，即使不能達成協議，我們也有其他非常好的選擇。我認為通過遵守歐盟規則取得進展是不對的，我們已經度過了危機最糟糕的階段。
如果英國和歐盟達成協議，年底英鎊兌美元可能漲至1.40，基本預期是基於英國脫歐協議前景。脫歐過渡時期已經過去差不多一半，英歐談判尚未現進展，達成關於金融服務對等的協議並延長過渡期的最後期限已經結束，並且由於新冠疫情仍成為歐盟和英國雙方政治和決策方面的重要事項，年底前達成新的英歐貿易協議顯示時間愈發緊迫。即使英歐雙方達成貿易協議，2021年雙方也有可能出現新的貿易問題，如果雙方未達成協議，那麼經濟影響可能更大。
，儘管經濟前景黯淡，但英國資本市場仍有復蘇希望。今年第一季度，英國國內生產總值出現了自1979年以來最嚴重的收縮，貿易逆差擴大到211億英鎊(264億美元)。
分析師認為，英國將受益於全球經濟復蘇的有利前景，認為英鎊將是美元走軟的最顯著受益者。預計美元將下跌，因避險資金流向發生逆轉，且11月美國總統大選前政治不確定性上升。
