5月28日晚，美國公佈了一系列的重要數據，當中市場密切關注的美國一季度GDP修正值下修超預期，雖然4月耐用品訂單好於預期，初請失業金人數也符合市場預期，但金價仍保持震盪，等待新消息的指引。
具體數據顯示，美國第一季度實際GDP年化季率修正值實際公佈-5.0%，預期-4.8%，前值-4.8%。
其他分項顯示，美國第一季度消費者支出年化季率修正值實際公佈-6.8%，預期-7.5%，前值-7.6%；美國第一季度GDP平減指數修正值實際公佈1.4%，預期1.3%，前值1.3%。
這是自2014年第一季度GDP下滑1.1%以來首次出現負增長，也是自2008年第四季度金融危機最嚴重時期GDP下滑8.4%以來的最低水準。GDP數據的下降反映了3月最後兩周經濟活動的大幅下滑，數百萬美國人在這兩周內尋求失業救濟。
美國國會預算辦公室預測認為，美國二季度GDP按年率計算將下降38%，失業人數將比2019年底增加2600萬；隨著對疫情擔憂的減弱以及各地放鬆限制，預計經濟將在2020年下半年開始復蘇，第三季度的就業情況也將顯著改善。
失業率將在第二季度末達到19%的峰值。但有更廣泛的失業率衡量指標表明，當前失業率已經超過了20%。在復蘇的最初階段，失業率將在經濟重啟後急劇下降，但之後一段時間將保持在接近10%的位置。
美國可能會出現通縮——這對於沒有足夠準備金來償還貸款損失的銀行來說，將是一場大災難。到年底，核心PCE指數將同比增長0.6%。美國可以避免潛在的徹底通縮，但現在我們需要將注意力放在一系列預警指標上。
與以上數據同時公佈的，其他數據顯示，美國截至5月23日當周初請失業金人數實際公佈212.3萬人，預期210萬人，前值243.8萬人。美國至5月23日當周初請失業金人數連續第8周回落。
市場分析美國上周初請數據指出，美國上周初請失業金人數達212.3萬人，過去十周新增失業人數達到4076.7萬人，超過歷史上任何時期的失業人數，相當於美國勞動力的1/4，不過值得注意的是，續請失業金人數出現下降，意味著重新開放使得一些人可以避免申請失業金。
